Personal Support

            PERSONAL SUPPORT VEHICLE RULES

One of the fastest growing segments of the Tour de Wyoming is the use of personal sags.  This includes those riders who have a friend or spouse tag along on the event in a personal vehicle. Often the driver stops along the route to offer personal support and then moves ahead to the night destination and sets up for the evening at our group location.  Many of these vehicles include RVs or trailers that can take up a good bit of space at our overnight locations.

The increase in the use of personal sags requires that we incorporate support vehicle rules and guidelines.  The primary concern is with safety of cyclists when these vehicles pass them on the road and then to ensure less confusion at the overnight locations.

All personal vehicles parked within the area of our overnight facilities MUST have a pass that they place on the dashboard so it is visible from the front of the vehicle.  This includes cars, RVs, trailers, etc. A pass is needed even if those using the vehicle are paid riders.   There is a $40 fee for the pass except for full-time volunteers who will receive a free pass.  This pass allows overnight parking at Rock Springs, Mountain View, Kemmerer and Farson.  IT DOES NOT PROVIDE PARKING at the Flaming Gorge Resort.  You must secure your own RV site at that location.

This fee is required since we pay for use of all facilities and entertainment and those who stay with us need to contribute to cover for those costs.  This fee does not include any meal plans, which can be added, if desired.

General Rules:

  1. Each vehicle that stays at the Tour overnight locations must display a Tour de Wyoming vehicle pass. Cost of the pass is $40 and is available before the event on the registration site.  Vehicles must have a pass displayed to stay at our Mountain View, Kemmerer and Farson overnight sites.
  2. This fee provides access to overnight facilities including showers, restrooms and porta-potties at Rock Springs, Mountain View, Kemmerer and Farosn and allows participation at any entertainment events. It does not include meal fees.
  3. Each pass will also include a route cue sheet, participant manual and parking layout at each of three overnight facilities.  Tips on route alternatives to avoid driving through our throng of riders will be provided, too, when we have option

Overnight Location Rules:

  1. Please park in the RV area, indicated in the maps provided or as directed by the Advance Team at the location.  Do not expect to park before 10 a.m.
  2. Do not park in areas blocked off with orange cones. These areas are for support vendors such as the bike mechanics and massage providers.
  3. Do not arrive at overnight location before 10 a.m. to allow the Tour advance team time to set up signage and designate locations for support vendors and luggage drop-off.
  4. Do not, under any circumstances, go into the school or facility on your own to ask staff for directions on where to park. ONLY the advance team coordinates with the staff at the facility.  NO EXCEPTIONS.
  5. Do not plug in to any electrical outlets on the premises. If you want hook-ups please go to a local RV park that you arrange on your own.
  6. Please turn off any generators from 7 p.m. through 7 a.m.  Again, if you prefer having generators operating through the evening and early in the morning, go to an RV park instead.  The morning restriction is due to our close proximity to residential areas where homeowners could object to noises earlier in the morning.
  7. You must secure your own parking area for the Flaming Gorge Resort.  Volunteers can park in the tent area (where there is LIMITED) parking but, if a volunteer wants hook-ups, they must also secure their own site.  Note we are at the resort TWO NIGHTS.

On-the-Road Rules

  1. No personal support vehicles are allowed at the designated Tour rest stop/aid stations. This is a safety issue since there is already a lot of activity at these areas.
  2. Driving past our group of cyclists must be done with great caution. While the bulk of the Tour riders do a great job of staying as far to the right as possible, some cyclists seem to have less concern with Riding Right. Drivers must be on high alert and reduce their speed when passing cyclists.
  3. If you stop along the highway, be well off the road and do not hinder the ability of cyclists to pass. In other words, keep the shoulder free for cyclists.

Any support vehicle that does not adhere to these rules will be asked to find other parking facilities and their pass will be revoked.  If that driver continues, the rider the rider they are supporting will also be asked to leave the Tour.
