Day 0 (July 16) we will gather at Western Wyoming Community College gym and open field on the southwest side of the campus in Rock Springs. Day 1 (July 17) we pedal 72 miles from Rock Springs to the southern end of Flaming Gorge Reservoir to stay for two nights at Flaming Gorge Resort (click on name to go to their website).  It is a very scenic ride but, at times, with minimal shoulders.  Traffic is primarily recreational users, often hauling boats and driving RVs.  We have a large open area for outdoor camping where we will also set up wedding-style tents for indoor campers.  Personal RVs can park nearby but those who want hook-ups my reserve their own site.  Showers are a bit of a challenge, with changes each of the two days. Expect to enjoy a stroll to get to the showers.

Geologic LoopDay 2 (July 18) we pedal 55 miles in a “lollipop” route design.  We go up the stem and then take a loop tour of the very scenic Sheep Creek Geologic Loop.  There is the potential that construction will require a modification to the route for this day, but we won’t likely know much in advance.  We have a Plan B, shown below, should we need to make that change.  There are other recreational possibilities at Flaming Gorge Resort including river rafting, kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing.

For Day 3 (July 19) we cover 79 miles.  First we repeat some of the route we did the day before and then continue north through the town of Manila before crossing back into Wyoming.  From there we enjoy open spaces with rolling terrain to arrive at the high school in Mountain View.  This will be a long day, on rolling to hilly terrain.

Our Day 4 is a short one, going only 43 miles.  Being sandwiched between to 70+-mile days, though make it a welcome respite.  We head north on a rolling sagebrush sea, going along the Oyster Ridge and then ending the day in Kemmerer.  We have stayed in this town many times in our 24 years and they always put out the welcome map.

Oregon Trail

On Day 5, we head east for 76 miles.  At times we parallel the Oregon Trail, going the opposite direction from that of all those settlers traveling via Conestoga wagon way back when.  We also bisect some major big game migration corridors where mule deer and pronghorn move from their summer and winter ranges.   We end our ride for the day in the small town of Farson, known for their huge ice cream cones at the local mercantile.

Red Desert

On our final day, we head south with a nearly straight shot back to Rock Springs for 43 miles.  Of course, we pass through Eden first, before tackling the rolling terrain with views of the vast Red Desert to the east.
